Not every wedding has to be a big event with hundreds of guests and a packed schedule. More and more couples are opting for a celebration at a more leisurely pace, focusing above all on the people, the emotions and the time spent together.
This is exactly what Monika and Michał’s wedding was like, as they invited their closest friends and family to Polna Zdrój in Wleń. An intimate reception, personalised vows and a venue that, from the very first moment, encourages you to slow down.
It was my first time in Polna Zdrój, and I immediately understood why Monika and Michał had chosen this particular place.
Surrounded by greenery, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, it allows you to pause for a moment and simply be in the here and now. There’s nothing over the top about it. Instead, there’s peace, nature and an atmosphere that lets the whole day flow at its own pace.
I feel that it’s precisely this sort of place that’s best suited to weddings, where people are what matter most.
During the ceremony, Monika and Michał exchanged their own vows.
It’s always one of the most personal moments of the day. No two stories are the same, nor are any two sets of words identical. Every couple tells the story of their relationship in a completely different way, and that’s precisely why I love capturing these moments in my films.
They were surrounded only by their closest loved ones – family and friends who shared every minute of the day with them. The intimate atmosphere made everything feel incredibly natural and unforced.
The term ‘slow wedding’ is used very often these days.
For me, however, it doesn’t refer to a specific style of decoration or a particular number of guests. It’s, above all, a way of experiencing your wedding day.
Monika and Michał weren’t in a hurry at all. They made time for conversations, moments spent with their loved ones, and simply being together. There was no sense of having to tick off items on a schedule.
And that’s what I remember most about that day.
Whilst editing, my main priority was to capture the atmosphere that prevailed in Polna Zdrój.
The tranquillity, closeness to nature and sense of freedom were present from the very first moments right through to the end of the reception. It is these elements that drive the story and ensure that the film is not just about Monika and Michał’s wedding, but also about the place that became an integral part of it.
If I had to describe that day in a single sentence, I’d simply say:
If there’s such a thing as a ‘slow wedding’, this is exactly what it is.
Your day.
Your emotions.
Your story.
